Connecting by Design offers interactive workshops and multi-session programs that help people move from hesitation to meaningful conversation.
Each format is built around the Four Conditions for Connection: Invitation, Environment, Structure and Repetition.
One-Hour Connecting By Design Workshop
For older adults and community groups.
A practical, interactive workshop that introduces the Four Conditions for Connection and helps participants feel more comfortable beginning conversations and building meaningful relationships.
Participants will:

Understand why connection can feel difficult

Learn the Four Conditions for Connection

Experience a guided conversation activity

Identify one realistic step they can take in their own lives
Duration: 60 minutes
Best suited for: Seniors’ lunches, community groups, libraries, volunteer organizations and social programs
Style: Welcoming, practical and highly interactive
Five-Week Connecting By Design Series
Five practical one-hour sessions that help participants understand why connection often feels difficult, practise starting conversations and create a realistic plan for building stronger relationships.
The five sessions:
Week 1 - Why Connection Feels Hard
An introduction to the Four Conditions for Connection.
Week 2 - Invitation
Learning how to go first and make connection easier to begin.
Week 3 - Environment
Identifying the places and situations where connection is most likely.
Week 4 - Structure
Using prompts, activities and shared experiences to make conversation easier.
Week 5 - Repetition
Turning one interaction into an ongoing relationship.
Duration: Five weekly sessions of 60 minutes
Best suited for: Recreation centres, seniors’ centres and community organizations
Includes: Guided activities, simple handouts and weekly connection experiments
Extended Connecting By Design Workshop
For organizations and Individuals
A deeper interactive workshop that gives participants more time to explore the Four Conditions for Connection, practise structured conversation and apply the framework to their own community, workplace or organization.
Participants will:

Explore the barriers that prevent people from connecting

Learn how Invitation, Environment, Structure and Repetition affect social interaction

Participate in guided conversation exercises

Identify practical changes that can make connection more likely

Develop a simple action plan
Duration: 90–120 minutes
Best suited for: Community organizations, workplaces, conferences, volunteer teams and individuals
Can be adapted for: Staff development, community engagement or public programming
Connecting By Design Singles Events

A structured social experience designed to make meeting new people feel more natural, welcoming and human.
These events will use guided conversation, thoughtful activities and the Four Conditions for Connection to create an alternative to traditional singles events.
